Fast Times Run At NYRR Night At The Races Meet #1Published by
By Chris Lotsbom, ArmoryTrack.com On Thursday evening, the first of four NYRR Night at the Races Meets took center stage at The New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory, featuring more than 230 competitors. Athletes took to The Armory's famed fast oval to compete in three events ranging from 600 meters to two miles. Sponsored by the New York Road Runners, the NYRR Night at the Races Meet was open to the public, welcoming athletes of all abilities. Brianna Nerud, a native of North Shore High School on Long Island, won both the women's 1000 meters and 600 meters, timing 2:54.32 and 1:34.47, respectively. Nerud, 19, is the American Junior record holder in the 3000m steeplechase. In the women's two mile, Central Park Track Club-New Balance teammates Andrea Bradshaw and Christina Argueta finished first and second. Sharif Webb won the men's 1000 meters in 2:26.57, while Michael Brown took the men's 600 meters in 1:24.16. A number of athletes raced in their college or high school uniforms, taking part in a Throwback Thursday theme. Included among those sporting their vintage singlets was 1992 Olympian John Trautmann, who ran all three events. Trautmann starred at Monroe-Woodbury High School and Georgetown University before qualifying for the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. Fun wasn't just limited to the track: a Yoga for Runners class was held, and Happy Hour at the Finish Line Cafe capped off the evening. Thursday's event was just the first of four NYRR Night at the Races Meets this season. The next NYRR Night at the Races Meet will be on Thursday, January 23, 2014.
